Pandemic Democracy

Despite what the government tells you, democracy is essential in a crisis.

The UK government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been to retreat behind closed doors. No-one can know what they are discussing, there is no scrutiny from the public, the press, or for a long time, even parliament. We are all supposed to trust that they have our best interests at heart and are doing the best they can.

Now that the UK has the highest death toll in Europe, it is clear that the government’s strategy has not worked. Their failures are increasingly coming to light, investigative journalism is finally kicking into gear, and the public are starting to get angry.
