9 Ways Nihilism Can Lead to Compassion

An alternative starting point for value systems

In my first year of high school, I came across the personal website of a nihilist. I was fascinated by his outlook despite my strong Christian views.

It was my first exposure to the idea that traditional values and belief systems are arbitrary, and that life is ultimately meaningless.

I was surprised to find that the cold logic appealed to me, and I briefly allowed myself the question:

Could I ever believe that we’re really just molecules in the universe, evolving and decaying without any greater purpose?

From somewhere inside me came a faint “…maybe?”
